How "Swift" is the Beneteau Swift Trawler?
How “swift” is the Beneteau Swift Trawler 44?
When launched, the decision Beneteau made to rework the classic trawler yacht was described as “the most inspired move of the last decade”. Delivering the combination of impressive speed, long range capability, easy handling, large decks, spacious accommodation and all at an exceptional price when compared to similar sized models from other brands.
The clever Joubert/Nivelt designed hull with features that include large chines that extend from stem to stern widening at the aft to create natural stability against roll when underway contributes further to the incredibly smooth ride of the 44.
Powered by twin 300hp Volvo Penta D4 Diesels on standard shafts drives, at a cruising speed of 20 knots (3,100rpm) the Swift Trawler 44 consumes 19.1gph which is greatly improved on previous models and its competitors. At 1500rpm she will cruise at a quiet and comfortable 8.2 knots with a range of a staggering 650miles.
The handling is supple and direct and even when delivering a “Swift” top speed of 24knts, the engines are punchy, smooth and remarkably quiet. On test she was said to demonstrate “a wonderful blend of rough sea prowess and fun handling, balanced and as happy romping through cut chop at 24 knots as it is purring along at 8”.
With regard to space, eight can sit comfortably on the flybridge and from the upper helm station the engines are a muted burble, it is genuinely peaceful, even at fast cruising speeds. The saloon has a light airy feel and the view through the vertical screens forward from the helm is “nothing short of astonishing”. The double sofa bed in the saloon means the Swift Trawler 44 can easily sleep six people and the contemporary design is a far cry from a traditional Trawler yacht.
Against the competition the Swift Trawler 44 is faster, cheaper, has a greater range and needs serious consideration when looking for a comfortable, dynamic cruising motorboat. For more details, contact Nick Hatfield on: +44 (0)2380 450017 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
