Sam Comes Second in the RYA National Match Racing Champs!
Pitted against the elite, this weekend at the Queen Mary Sailing Club
It was a very busy weekend for Ancasta, and in particular our Race Boat Manager and Broker, Sam Pearson who regularly competes both locally and internationally.
Before accepting 5 awards at the RORC Annual Dinner & Prize Giving for his efforts on Magnum III, the Ker 40; Sam took part in this year’s RYA National Match Racing Championship.
Supported by Tom Dawson, Nick Butt, Simon Wheeler and Paul Childs, the crew on their J80, were pitted against the elite of match racing events, including Paul and Mark Campbell-James, who are no strangers to anyone in competitive sailing circles. However Sam’s crew ensured that it was not all plain sailing for the eventual champ’s brother Paul – who played an integral part in this year’s Americas Cup Luna Rossa campaign. In the semi-finals Sam and the team put up a 2-1 win and were the only competitors to beat Paul Campbell-James throughout the entire event, before going on to meet his brother Mark in the final. Though the racing was tight, Campbell-James definitely had the edge pre-start and the five times winner went onto to put in three clear wins.
