Protector RIBs Keep Pace with SailGP’s High-Speed Action at Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix | Portsmouth

SailGP returned to UK waters this weekend, 19–20 July, for the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix | Portsmouth with high-octane racing action unfolding on the Solent.

Alongside the world’s fastest foiling catamarans, a fleet of Protector RIBs were on duty, delivering the speed, control, and reliability required to keep up with the action.

Multiple Protector Chase 330 centre console RIBs served as official chase boats throughout the event, matching the blistering pace of this cutting-edge global championship while providing essential on-water support.

Our Protector Targa 380 was also at the centre of all the action as a media broadcast vessel, carrying state-of-the-art video equipment onboard, including a high-performance gyro stabilised camera that streamed live footage of the racing from the middle of the race course. With expansive deck space, an extra-wide beam, and full walk around decking, it provided a stable platform for all of the kit and accommodated the media crew with ease.

At the heart of the Chase 330’s capability is its deep-V hull and heavy-duty Hypalon tubes, offering a smooth, fast, and stable ride in all conditions. Whether racing down the Solent or navigating tight docks manoeuvres, the Chase 330 delivers confidence-inspiring control.

Designed with professional teams in mind, the 10.5-metre RIB features a full-size Bimini and protective front screen for all-weather comfort, along with spacious fore and aft deck areas to support crew movement and equipment handling.

Transportability is another standout feature. The Chase 330 is purpose-built to fit inside a standard 40ft container – a crucial advantage when shipping boats between international venues across the SailGP calendar.

Powered by twin outboards and equipped with a large fuel capacity, the Chase 330 can top speeds of over 50 knots while supporting long operational days – maximising efficiency and minimising downtime. Multiple deck and seating configurations also make it ideal for both commercial and recreational use.
