The Ker 40 is an exciting yacht that was been specifically designed for higher performance around the racetrack but more importantly to win races on IRC and ORCi handicap systems.
Designed by talented British designer Jason Ker, his designs over the past ten years have stormed onto the international sailing scene in no uncertain terms
Built by renowned builders McConaghy Boats, the Ker 40 clearly had the pedigree and now has the results to prove that this collaboration has achieved everything it set out to.
A simple interior layout makes this boat completely fit for purpose and a fully optimised structural design using advanced Finite Element Analysis Techniques, had meant the boat is tough and durable for ocean racing, whilst being light enough to fend off the competition on the inshore platform as well.
Keel: New IRC optimised forged steel keel fin in 2017 (-190kg), with weight reduction of bulb at same time (-300kg) - Keel fin +300mm in length. (original SG iron keel fin strut with composite fairings and lead bulb)
Rudder: Autoclaved Carbon Fibre rudder stock, with carbon tiller steering.
The hull and deck constructed from vacuum consolidated E-glass/epoxy/foam sandwich resin infused.
Additional reinforcements in way of all deck fittings and other highly loaded areas.
Hull and Deck: Finished in high-grade polyurethane. Plus Non-skid areas on deck.
Recent 2017/18 work;
- New longer, lighter keel. (forged Steel, with latest profile shape on fin and bulb)
- New longer bowsprit.
- New re-designed bow fore hatch, with custom pneumatic seal.
- New cockpit non-skid.
- New deck non-skid paint.
Spars & Rigging
The rig is well sized for all round performance, with a high aspect sail plan, which will ensure that this boat will perform above its size across all wind ranges. The spar package is supplied by none other than world-renowned mast makers, Hall Spars.
A highly refined, high modulus, carbon fibre double spreader rig and carbon boom.
The rig is also supplied with composite, twin running back stays to allow for the square top mainsail, which has an upgraded purchase system to allow for more precision control of mast bend.
A good inventory of inshore and offshore running rigging is available and things have been updated/replaced when necessary.

A Yannmar 29hp engine is included and serviced regularly.

The interior of Hooligan is designed to be function over fashion, with white painted interior surfaces, standing headroom throughout the forward parts of the boat and a designated navigation area, WC, galley sink and jet boil.
The boat lends itself very well to offshore racing should it be required, with 6 pipe cots style berths either side and two large saloon bunk tops.
The floor is gripped in a new Non-skid foam.
