Overview
"Gweilo" is a new central listing and one of the most optimized IRC/ORCi 52 footers in the World today. This Judel Vrolijk design has always been at the forefront of racing in both NZ and Australia, where she has been campaigned by her last two owners.
Now fully upgraded to current thinking, including a 2019 keel fin and bulb package, complete update of mast and boom package to cater for a full offshore program and an electronics package upgrade to give the boat for the very best data for performance improvements.
Without question one of the most complete inventories we have ever seen at 52 feet.
"Gweilo" is a step on and win offering.
Build
"Gweilo" (formerly known as "Viento" in NZ and built originally as Med Cup boat "Container".)
TP / IRC / ORCi 52
Construction:
Built originally as a 'no-expense-spared' yacht by a German owner for the Med cup, she is the sistership to the all conquering RAN / PAPREC which competed at very highest level in the Med Cup series in more recent years.
She was built using a single tool female hull & deck mould. Structure made of Prepreg carbon fibre, with a high-spec Kevlar Nomex honeycomb core, which kept these yachts incredibly light and stiff.
LOA - 15.85m
BEAM - 4.418m
DRAFT - 3.72m
DISPLACEMENT - 6.850kg – 6.950kg - Inshore vs offshore inventories.
- Designed by Judel/Vrolijk 2011.
- Full pre-preg carbon construction hull, deck and structure.
- State of the art, Kevlar/Nomex "Honeycomb" core from Cormaster, was provided in pre-shaped panels, to ensure highest physical stiffness properties and zero margin for error fitting, which ensured minimum weight.
- Bespoke female hull and deck tooling. Sister ship to "RAN IV" on 52 Super Series circuit and the only two boats to share this tooling.
- "Container" was the second boat from this tooling, which resulted in an exceptionally high quality build.
- Keel fin locates into "socket" type arrangement.
- Built to ISO and Germanischer Lloyd exacting standards of construction.
- Gloss white topsides and cockpit areas.
- Sprayed non-skid decks.
- New light grey antifouling with hard wearing orange foil antifouling.

Broker Comments
Without doubt an incredibly well prepared IRC or ORCi 52 and her new, low-drag, deeper keel fin has been a clear step forward in performance, alongside the sail package development. This fin is using a similar design profile to the current Med-spec J/V boats, which are clearly the better design of this generation. Not only has the performance improved, but all those high ticket items to ensure reliability have also been ticked off, with a recent EC6 rigging check (June 23") and full survey of the hull, we know the boat is where she needs to be to perform. GWEILO is truly a top level 52, that has performed both inshore and offshore, showing that age is just a number. Get in touch to learn more.
