“Nimrod” Judel/Vrolijk Marten 80 Refit

Having been laid ashore for the past four years, the owner of “Nimrod,” a carbon, 20-year-old Judel/Vrolijk Marten 80 originally built in New Zealand, has commissioned Ancasta Yacht Services to carry out a major refit to get her ready for her new home in Italy. A long list of extensive works are scheduled to complete in Spring 2022.

De-Winterisation

The first job on the list was to de-winterise the yacht before carrying out in-water system checks to identify any issues or signs of wear. We then unstepped the mast with the onsite rigging team from Advanced Rigging and Hydraulics, lifted her out of the water and moved her into the AYS workshop at the end of August.

Engine Overhaul

The engine and generator have been removed for reconditioning, and the Hundestadt variable pitch system sent away for an overhaul. The prop shaft, shaft seals and CV joint will be replaced, and the freshwater and fuel systems serviced. We’ll also carry out fuel polishing using our in-house fuel polisher to remove all water, dirt and debris from the tank. 

Hull and Deck Respray

The hull and deck needed a complete respray. Once complete, non-skid paint will be applied to the coachroof and aft transom deck. Our paint bay can accommodate yachts of up to 75ft, with a small extension tent bringing the 80ft ‘Nimrod’ undercover. The team of experienced yacht painters will ensure the hull and topsides look smart and vibrant again. 

New Teak Deck

The old teak deck has been removed, and is being replaced by the craftsmen in our boat building division who have the specialist skills to produce long-lasting and beautiful decks that will withstand the test of time. After lofting out the new deck in the bay next to the yacht, it was then lifted in sections onto the prepared deck surface before being bonded into place with utmost care and precision. 

Interior Modifications

The four heads compartments are being repainted before new electric toilets are fitted, along with a new black water system. Our skilled joinery team are also carrying out a variety of internal cabinet modifications, joinery repairs and varnishing to the traditional teak interior. 

Custom Canvas Covers

New custom made canvas covers for the exterior furniture, including bimini cover, mast collar, safety equipment covers and an extension to the cockpit enclosure to cover the dining area, all in matching navy, will complete the transformation.
