Baltic 70 Vittfarne Refit

Ancasta Yacht Services (AYS) has extensive experience managing large restoration projects and our yacht renovation teams can work with you to enhance your boat to your exact needs and specifications. Every winter, we welcome ‘Vittfarne’, a beautiful Baltic 70 sailing yacht, into the workshop for her annual overhaul and upgrades. Here’s an overview of the work carried out by AYS this year.

Upon arrival our sister company, Advanced Rigging & Hydraulics, arranged for Vittfarne’s mast to be unstepped, stripped and serviced by their onsite rigging team. Rig checks are vital for any boat that sails regularly. A thorough inspection of the mast and fittings can help to identify any issues that could lead to more significant problems further down the line. It is also a chance to assess wear and tear to halyards, cleaning up turnbuckles and terminals.

This year the owner wanted to upgrade the genoa track system to improve sheeting angles and upwind performance. This required two athwartship hydraulic controlled genoa tracks and cars to be fitted. As the boat has a carbon hull and deck, extra reinforcements were required to accommodate the new tracks and provide additional support under the new loads. To do this, the team carefully removed the fore and aft genoa tracks and relaid the teak before removing the existing hatches and replacing them with new flush ones along with structural under deck supports.

The gearbox and variable pitch propeller were also removed, overhauled, and refitted during the winter works to improve motoring performance. Furthermore, the yacht received a full hull respray as well as new paint in the owner’s ensuite cabin, crew cabin and heads. Lastly, ten new custom-made stainless fairleads were manufactured and fitted.

Once the works were complete, the mast was re-stepped and dock tuned ready for another busy season of sailing adventures.
