Feedback on Buying a Boat
My husband and I are the new owners of a Jeanneau 53 that was listed by Ancasta Barcelona. Starting in April 2025, we plan to sail 7 months out of the year in The Mediterranean and work 5 months here in The Netherlands. A hybrid sabbatical for a few years so to say.The boat was owned by Australians who we never met. Not something we’re used to here in The Netherlands. When we put our Dehler 39SQ up for sale last September, we met the interested parties during viewings (at their request) and we took them for short trial sails. We then spend half a day with the buyers when we handed over the boat.In the absence of that personal interaction, Josiane Sader handled all our questions in a swift manner, chasing and securing a quick turn around by the seller in Australia or the shipyard at some point. Her replies were always very professional and explanatory so that nothing got lost in translation in this three-way, remote selling/buying reality. Daily practice for you I’m sure, but a once in a lifetime experience for us most likely (we don’t expect to sell the boat in a few years while living on the other side of the world:).We put our own broker, on copy during the process, especially during the contract phase. Not once did Josiane give us the feeling that we were over-asking or being difficult. Her patient demeanor really made this a smooth process.I also want to take the opportunity to let you know that if it wasn't for Kostas Saltouridis, we would not have bought the boat at all. In my profession I know that good and genuine customer service can make a difference and Kostas definitely over-delivered.With a seller in Australia, we as buyers in The Netherlands and a broker in Barcelona, we started to doubt after the survey if buying that particular vessel was the smart thing to do. With no one on the ground in Greece we felt uncomfortable to try and find the right people remotely to work through the essential jobs that came out of the survey.Kostas noticed that however and stepped in. He offered to use his own expertise and local network of specialists to work through the most important repairs. After consultation with the seller we agreed to a plan and a timeline. By checking in with me daily and by sending through pictures and video's, he kept us informed on the progress. Last week I hopped over to Greece to go over all the jobs done by Kostas and his team. I had no comments so we made the last payment the day I got back.The seller in Australia isn't able to handover the boat to us so Kostas also took the time to explain all the electronics/equipment to me in detail which I video recorded for later "direction for use" references.We are waiting on some final paperwork after which we hope to launch the boat early August ready for new sailing adventures starting next year. Something my husband and I have been looking forward too for a long time. We were looking for our next boat and had decided on a three-cabin flybridge. Ancasta Chichester was advertising a 1999 Princess 460 which looked like it could fit the bill, so we made an appointment to view. A long drive from our home in Essex to Chichester Marina to view the boat proved very fruitful, and after a fault-free sea trial and positive survey, we are now the proud owners of that vessel! Neil and JackieWe have recently purchased Dentino II from Sam Peters. We initially contacted him through the website asking for more details, photos and videos about the boat. Sam was obliging and pleasant to deal with from the start. There was nothing that seemed too much effort and he always replied to my messages and phone calls, even on weekends and after hours. The offer did not go to plan but with Sam’s help and smart negotiation, we were able to put another offer forward. The offer was accepted and we are now proud owners of the boat. I will be seeing Sam next week to pick up the keys and paperwork before the boat is brought through to Christchurch.
I feel in the current times we live in people are always quick to complain, but we feel that this is one situation that praise needs to be given to Sam. Hope you all have a great safe summer in Falmouth.

After several months of looking and two failed surveys, I have just completed the purchase of my first boat, a Jeanneau Merry Fisher 795. As a newcomer to boating I have to admit my first impression of boat brokers was pretty poor (compared to other industries I deal with) - descriptions were definitely on the optimistic side, boats were untidy, dirty and generally poorly presented. No excuses, just very poor sales and I would be careful who to list my boat with in the future. Then I came across Ancasta (Leo Walters) who shone bright like a beacon. The description of the boat was accurate, minor faults highlighted and extra pictures provided on request. Communications with Ancasta have been excellent, the boat was very well presented for inspection and after sales Ancasta remained interested to ensure my experience was positive. I wouldn't hesitate going to Ancasta for another purchase and if you are thinking of selling a boat, consider using Ancasta, you will get better service and value for money than many other brokers out there. And as a buying customer I would feel confident buying through them so you would be more likely to sell to me!A Waring

I came to Ancasta Chichester to enquire about an Island Packet 485. As the deal progressed it became increasingly complicated due to factors from the survey and a sadly departed owner. Without much knowledge of the intricacies of the boat and the probability of an extensive project, it was certainly difficult. I just wanted to say how much I am enjoying my Oceanis Yacht 62, Premier Cru. It is the perfect boat for the type of sailing that I like to do. I have been cruising the NSW and Queensland coast and locally around Port Stephens for the last 3 years and loving it. I have since changed the boom to a Hall Spars (NZ) carbon fibre furling boom which makes it very easy to sail single handed and added a Code Zero with a furler. I also had fitted a Dockmate controller which handles the thrusters, forward and reverse and anchor winch so very easy to dock on my own if need be. Mary and I often talk about the wonderful experience that we had in taking delivery of the yacht in Hamble and the fantastic service that your team gave us, truly a pleasure to deal with the whole time we were there. Mr CIn 2020 I ordered a brand new boat with Ancasta. The sales team were knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Once the order was placed, their commissioning team (Adam and Veronika in my case) took over to get the boat ready for launch and handover. Truly, the commissioning team were FANTASTIC. Nothing, but nothing, seemed too much trouble! From the initial chat when I told them about complicated bespoke modifications I needed, to various standard extras that I then added, to the timely coordination and oversight of the various sub-contractors, to the handover day itself... they worked very hard and with incredible efficiency and - most importantly - kept me informed every step of the way. I was SO impressed that, believe it or not, just six months later I have ordered another (slightly bigger) boat with Ancasta and look forward, yet again, to working with Adam and Veronika to modify and enhance my new boat.Isle of Wight
A great service from Nick and Tim for our purchase of a Malo 36 whilst in lockdown. Great advice on various local surveyors and Nick kept everyone informed as to what we could do and when. The purchase was straight forward and Nick kept us up to date with how the purchase was progressing. Unfortunately we were unable to collect the boat to move to Totnes, so Nick and Tim got up in the middle of the night to take the boat up river for lift out at 7.00am for onward travel overland. Everyone that I have dealt with throughout the whole process has gone out of their way to be helpful, they are knowledgeable, and a delight to deal with. The deal that you put together for us was not without its difficulties but Alex’s dogged determination to sell “Makonkie” and make it work for us was impressive to say the least. We haven’t met but I wanted to tell you about the exceptional help that we have received from Hanne.. Last summer my wife and I decided to buy a used Lagoon catamaran and we were recommended to speak to Hanne by the skipper of a friend’s yacht. We have recently completed the purchase of a 2011 Lagoon 450 and Hanne has helped us every step of the way through several boats offered by other brokers which pretended to be for sale but weren’t really. As motor boat owners for some 15 years in our home of Jersey, we have had many dealings with brokers, but we were amazed at the time and effort that Hanne put into helping us, with apparent disregard for what she would get out of it. We would particularly mention some of Hanne’s qualities which were evidenced during our 6+ months of using her help. As swiss citizens, we have bought a sailing boat from a finnish owner in palma de mallorca, a combination which did not seem too easy to us. TBI thought that I would drop you a line to say how very pleased we were with the help and support we got from Kostas and Josiane in Ancasta Badalona. We always felt that they were working for us, not just to make a sale.
In particular Kostas was able to help and advise on some of the little touches to make Ione look a little better for sale – replacing a rusty heads jubilee clip, acid cleaning around some seacocks etc. In addition he went well beyond the call of duty in taking me to his chiropractor when I wrecked my back cleaning in lockers!

I must admit that it was a bit of an emotional day for me because not only is the boat fabulous, but everyone has been so professional and helpful along the journey since I placed the order back in July 2022. It has been a big learning curve for me as it is the first time I have ever bought a boat, let alone a new one. What I have realised is that everyone involved is like a big family, and that it really matters that clients are delighted on handover.
I really liked the little surprises on the day too. At the commissioning meeting with Chris & Veronica I did comment about my love of a cuppa, and I was delighted to find a pack of Yorkshire Tea with cups ready for me to brew up.
Everyone has done a great job, I cannot fault anything, and I am very grateful to you all for making my retirement plan a reality.

I just wanted to say how much I am enjoying my Oceanis Yacht 62, Premier Cru. It is the perfect boat for the type of sailing that I like to do. I have been cruising the NSW and Queensland coast and locally around Port Stephens for the last 3 years and loving it. I have since changed the boom to a Hall Spars (NZ) carbon fibre furling boom which makes it very easy to sail single handed and added a Code Zero with a furler. I also had fitted a Dockmate controller which handles the thrusters, forward and reverse and anchor winch so very easy to dock on my own if need be. Mary and I often talk about the wonderful experience that we had in taking delivery of the yacht in Hamble and the fantastic service that your team gave us, truly a pleasure to deal with the whole time we were there. Mr CIn 2020 I ordered a brand new boat with Ancasta. The sales team were knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Once the order was placed, their commissioning team (Adam and Veronika in my case) took over to get the boat ready for launch and handover. Truly, the commissioning team were FANTASTIC. Nothing, but nothing, seemed too much trouble! From the initial chat when I told them about complicated bespoke modifications I needed, to various standard extras that I then added, to the timely coordination and oversight of the various sub-contractors, to the handover day itself... they worked very hard and with incredible efficiency and - most importantly - kept me informed every step of the way. Firstly, a huge thank you to all the team for making the handover day so successful. Tom worked so hard to get us through everything with us finally finishing at about 6.45pm! Kerry and I were exhausted at the end as there was so much to take in. The boat is lovely and we are absolutely delighted to have taken ownership of such a fine vessel. There are a couple of minor points that Tom is dealing with but the overall standard of workmanship was found to be excellent and the guys at HYS have done a fantastic job on the forward cabins - so good in fact that it looks like it came out of the factory that way!
