Ancasta Yacht Club Rally to Alderney

Over the weekend, the Ancasta Yacht Club embarked on an exciting cruising rally from the bustling harbour of Lymington to the tranquil shores of Alderney in the Channel Islands.
After gathering in Lymington on the Friday evening, the fleet of eight sailing yachts set sail the next morning, under the guidance of the Ancasta lead boat. Despite a lack of wind, we enjoyed beautiful sunshine and stunning clear blue skies while motoring across a glimmering Solent towards the towering white cliffs of The Needles. Rounding the most westerly point of the Isle of Wight, the wind then filled in, so we hoisted the sails for a gentle reach across the English Channel.
Arriving in Alderney, crews were warmly welcomed by the Alderney Sailing Club, where they shared stories of their day over a delightful BBQ as the sun set. Quiet and serene, Alderney island is adorned with deserted golden sand beaches, clear waters, scenic cliff paths, and flourishing wildlife. This beautiful hidden gem is the perfect place to unwind and relax, so crews made the most of the opportunity to rest and explore on the Sunday morning before meeting up for a delicious lunch at The Georgian House, and live music on the terrace overlooking Braye Bay at the Moorings bar.
On Monday, it was time to head back to the Solent. The weather was a little less bright than previous days, and the winds light, but this didn’t dampen spirits and we all embraced the adventure and safely returned to our home ports.
It was an absolute joy to sail with everyone, and it was great to see the owners and crew build their sailing confidence and make lots of new friends.
