Alinghi Red Bull Racing launches their new AC40 Yacht
Alinghi Red Bull Racing’s first AC40 – delivered to the team base in Barcelona at the end of January – was christened today. This second boat marks the start of a new phase of training towards the 2024 America’s Cup.
Alinghi Red Bull Racing has unveiled its first AC40 boat in Barcelona, marking the start of a new training phase for the 2024 America’s Cup. The smaller boat was delivered to the team base in January and had been delayed to allow for changes to the structure following an assessment of damage to the Emirates Team New Zealand AC40 after a capsize. The one-design boat will be used in the first two pre-regattas, as well as the Youth & Women’s America’s Cup events.
The delivery of the AC40 marks the start of a two-boat training phase, which will increase to three later in the year with the arrival of the second AC40. With the launch and maintenance likely to be much simpler than the AC75 boat, the sailors will be able to continue training on the AC40 when the AC75 is out of the water for maintenance. The maiden sail for the AC40 is scheduled for the next few days, and the team is excited to explore and discover the boat’s potential.
