40 Years of Lagoon Catamarans
1980’s – Lagoon Catamarans is Born
The Lagoon story began in 1984 when the first Lagoon 55 was born. Following its success, four more Lagoon catamarans were launched over the next few years, including the Lagoon 57, Lagoon 37, Lagoon 42, and Lagoon 47. Owners loved the comfortable layouts, voluminous accommodation and easy-to-handle sail plans, marking the beginning of what would become one of the largest cruising catamaran brands on the planet.
1990’s – First Production Lagoon Catamaran
Following the introduction of the Lagoon 67 in 1994, Lagoon launched its first production-volume catamaran, the Lagoon 410 in 1997. Innovative vertical hull windows created a larger and cooler interior space not seen before in the range. Lagoon 380 also premiered in La Rochelle in 1998. Comfortable and dependable, it later became known as the Lagoon 42 and still remains one of the best in its category today.
2000’s – Sustainable Innovation
The birth of the Lagoon 400 at the Miami Boat Show 2004 brought a wealth of innovation to the market, including an operational flybridge, vast windows in the hulls, a forward cockpit, wave-piercing nacelles, and an owner’s cabin with island berth, walk-in closet, and separate shower. The Lagoon 420 Hybrid, the World’s first production catamaran with diesel/electric hybrid propulsion also entered the market, as well as the Lagoon 620 – a seaworthy luxury cat and archetype of Lagoon flagship models of today, with more than 100 boats sold worldwide.
2010’s – Lagoon 42 Premiere
In 2016, Lagoon launched the new and improved Lagoon 380, rebranded the Lagoon 42, at Boot Dusseldorf. Its elevated comfort and performance were unmatched for a 41-foot catamaran and with over 1000 sold worldwide, it remains popular today. In the same year, the SEVENTY7 was launched. At nearly 24 metres long it was the largest vessel built in the Lagoon shipyard. And it didn’t stop there; Lagoon unveiled the the SEVENTY 8 motor catamaran in 2017 at the Cannes Yachting Festival along with the Lagoon 40 and Lagoon 50.
2020’s – 40 Years of Lagoon
In more recent years, we’ve seen the launch of the Lagoon 51 with its innovative design, sustainable construction process, and new layout. And we’re looking forward to seeing world premieres of the new Lagoon 60 and Lagoon 43 at Cannes Yachting Festival 2024. To mark 40 years of Lagoon, VIP clients were invited to view the entire Lagoon range at the factory in Bordeaux in March, and Lagoon hosted a World Escapade in May, inviting owners to set sail together across the globe in celebration of this impressive milestone.
