New Raymarine Docksense™ Assisted docking technology

An exciting new development in recreational marine technology, the new Raymarine assisted docking control system, DockSense™, is soon to be available. By using object recognition and motion sensing technology, DockSense™ makes berthing simple and stress free.

Raymarine DockSense™ assisted docking system is the recreational marine industry’s first object recognition and motion sensing assisted docking solution. It works by using FLIR machine vision camera technology and video analytics in collaboration with the vessel’s propulsion and steering system to assist boat owners when docking or maneuvering within tight spaces.

The system is designed to augment a captain’s boat handling skills using Virtual Bumper™ zone technology that surrounds the vessel like an invisible shield. Should an object like a piling or another vessel encounter the Virtual Bumper™, DockSense™ automatically corrects the steering and throttle commands to ensure that the object is avoided. In addition, DockSense™uses GPS and AHRS position sensing technology to compensate for the wind and tides.

Prestige Motor Yachts is the first brand to adopt this new technology and we are delighted to announce that we able to offer DockSense™ to all of our Prestige clients going forward. Berthing can often bring about challenges for boat owners but this makes docking much less stressful and we expect it to be a very popular option amongst our Prestige customers.

THE FUTURE OF BOAT HANDLING

DockSense™ uses global positioning system (GPS) and attitude heading reference system (AHRS) position sensing technology to compensate for the effects of wind and currents, ensuring the vessel enters the dock without drama or costly collisions. The Raymarine DockSense™ systems include multiple FLIR machine vision cameras, a central processing module, and the DockSense™ App running on Raymarine’s Axiom navigation display. The system integrates with modern joystick propulsion systems, providing assisted steering and throttle commands to help captains make asmooth arrival.
