Overview

Introducing the new ADMIRAL 42 from Reichel Pugh and San Giorgio Marine.

Inspired by the re-birth of the Infamous Admirals Cup, where R/P have a long and celebrated history, they hope to return to the ring with this multifaceted design that offers a lot more than meets the eye.
The Admiral 42 is high-volume design compared to what we have seen in the current fleets, which not only increases interior spaces, but substantially improves handling in waves and ability to press the boat once the bows are off the wind. Available in two build options - carbon Infusion or Pre-preg, she is a fully spec'd boat that not only captures the imagination with her performance polars, but also the stunning R/P lines and looks.

Builder:
San Giorgio Marine will build the Admiral 42 from their facility in Genoa, Italy.
This hugely experienced and innovative yard have raised the level of build at 40ft in recent years, with their overwhelming success of the MUSA Class 40.
Now currently working with the Ferrari Hypersail and Americas Cup projects, every owner will be in the best hands Europe has to offer in this marketplace.

Construction:
Ultra-lightweight, resistant and high performance carbon fiber construction built according to the highest quality standards.
Hull and deck will be built in epoxy-infused intermediate modulus carbon fiber in three steps: outer skin lamination and infusion, consolidation and post cure.
Core thermoforming and bonding with a light rubber tough bonder that guarantees great mechanical properties in terms of elasticity and toughness.
Inner skin lamination and infusion, consolidation and post cure.
The vessel will be fully assembled in yard, with all primary and secondary structures,

Appendages
Twin rudder blades made from pre-preg carbon/foam and autoclaved for strength, with composite fairings and epoxy painted.
Steering system will be a carbon tiller as standard, with twin JP3 bearings (wheel configuration optional).
Keel fin will be milled then CNC'd using high strength steel. Depending on final righting moments required, weight will be fine tuned, then foam and carbon fairings added for finishing.
Lead T bulb is milled and then CNC'd to required final chosen sizing and weight requirement.

Broker Comments

40 foot race boats have always been a sweet spot for owners and crews - Logistics and running costs greatly reduced compared to larger boats and still huge fun factor on the race track. Since 2015 we have been these largely inshore flyers grow in popularity, thanks to the birth of the FAST 40 class in the UK, but also IRC and ORC fleets globally, where quick 40ft boats seem a rating sweet spot. The re-birth of the Admirals Cup has seen these boats again return to popularity, but making these inshore boats capable of races like the Fastnet has its limitations. The Admiral 42 has therefore tried to approach this design problem with a slightly different concept compared to what other designers are putting out there, by simply focussing on a yacht that has more offshore credentials, with a much higher volume solution offering a more forgiving type of yacht. Everyone involved knows that these boats still need maximum straight line speed, over wide ranging conditions, but for example increasing topside height by only 150mm or so and ensuring a water tight boat from new, are just a couple of small tweaks that can enhance offshore ability, without any notable inshore impact. The newer high volume hull shapes that designers have been developing in recent years, particularly for offshore boats, has clearly effected the design choices with the Admiral 42. Although clearly not a scow bow, which has obvious light air and inshore limitations, the R/P designers believe they have found a sweet spot in their design thinking, backed up by VPP verification. The team from Reichel/Pugh and San Giorgio are incredibly eager to start conversations with interested parties and get building the first boat, which aside from Admirals Cup aspirations, can be a boat used on any race track, the world over. We look forward to connecting with you and discussing this project further.
