Overview

New Haven (ex Fair Do’s VII) is a well-maintained IRC racer/cruiser from the drawing board of Jason Ker. As Fair Do’s, she was campaigned successfully in the Atlantic by her original owner whose design brief was for a strong, all-around performer in IRC (with emphasis on offshore racing) that was able to be comfortably cruised by a family. Under her present ownership, she has proven this brief to be successful, with Vic-Maui and Van Isle 360 races under her belt as well as round the buoys, distance racing and cruising in the Pacific Northwest waters.

Deck and Hull

New Haven’s hull is constructed in E-glass, foam and epoxy to ABS rules. Built by VMG Yachts
She features a deep carbon fiber rudder and “T” keel that is supported by aluminum keel floors. Her hull is painted dark metallic gray with a red boot and sheer stripes and a Baltoplate bottom.
The deck is white with painted nonskid on the side decks and teak overlay in the cockpit.

The cockpit design functions well as a racer/cruiser with twin carbon steering pedestals and wheels allow easy movement. Carbon foot chocks provide support for the helmsman. The main trimmer’s station forward of the helms is well configured with Navtec panels for the backstay and outhaul both port and starboard, “Admiral’s Cup” style mainsheet led below decks and a Harken Pro-Trim providing mechanical advantage on the traveler and greatly simplifying the deck layout.
Forward of the traveler there are bench seats with primary winches outboard.
At the pit area forward there are Harken self-tailing two drum winches for halyards and spinnaker sheets. All control lines on New Haven with the exception of the boom vang and headsail lead adjusters are led below deck to create a clean layout. Forward of the cockpit, the deck is straight forward and functional. Spinnakers are flown from the fixed bowsprit. There is a large anchor locker and a electric anchor windlass (currently uninstalled for racing) may be fitted.
Additional storage is available in cockpit seat lockers and a large locker below the sole at the aft end of the cockpit.
