Overview

The MC86 whilst remaining true to McConaghy's identifiable exterior lines and key performance attributes, is a full-custom yacht in build philosophy. This allows owners to set out the interior’s general arrangement and equipment in a way that is unique to their own requirements, with multiple bespoke options. A true "wind speed" catamaran, the MC86 has an extensive range under power as well with up to 2,000 nm at economical revs. Her bespoke carbon centre boards allow her to point much higher than other cats, yet are safely housed below decks in their carbon watertight boxes. The MC86 benefits from many of the yards in house production, with extensive use of carbon and bespoke interiors from m2Atilier. A serious, capable offshore catamaran indeed.

Build

The McConaghy MC86 is a custom, wind speed multihull from the McConaghy shipyard.

The MC86 may be delivered with an "Open Flybridge" or with an "enclosed flybridge", testament to the shipyards custom build approach.

Drawing on their incredible racing pedigree (think AC40's, Americas Cup and many race wins over 50 years) McConaghy have produced a range of wind speed custom Multihulls, capable of sailing at wind speed when off the wind whilst providing incredible volume and jaw dropping good looks.

The McConaghy MC86 points high, deploying her electro hydraulic centre boards (which are housed in self contained carbon boxes and designed to trip in the event of a contact) to reach up to 30 degrees off the wind. Get her to 90 degrees off and the boat will fly. Constructed using a controlled vacuum infusion process and pressed panels of E-glass, carbon composite and Corecell for lightweight strength and rigidity, the build quality is exceptional throughout.

Accommodation


At 26.2m in length, the MC86 offers enormous versatility and provides an appealing platform for both private use and commercial charter operation.

The exterior profile of the MC86 extends the look of the MC75 cat by 11 feet, retaining the same low profile and progressive style. What sets the MC86C apart, however, is not her size, but her flybridge.
The open flybridge variation provides an elevated position for the dual helm and a spacious seating area that enjoys a higher vantage point. The flybridge is accessed via a
staircase on the aft deck and its extended aft overhang provides additional stowage space for water toys.

Dynamic glass panels with UV reflective glazing run the length of the hull sides, with the hulls themselves topped by a predominantly glass superstructure that spans almost the full beam. The use of glass is a feature across the McConaghy Multihulls range, aiding the influx of natural light to the interior spaces and enhancing the visual connection with the sea and one’s surroundings.

The MC86 has a spacious exterior lounge on the aft deck where meals can be enjoyed alfresco, and access to the interior is afforded by full height, glass sliding doors.
A second deck space resides forward of the superstructure, where there’s a large sun pad. Further aft, a hydraulic ‘beach club’ platform allows for easy deployment and recovery of the tender, access to the water, and a terrace at the water’s edge that’s large enough to accommodate a sun lounger.

The main saloon is open plan and features a lounge area, dining table, and an attractive galley with centre console breakfast bar. The accommodation can be configured between the port and starboard hulls to suit owner specification. For those looking to run this cat with a crew, McConaghy recommend a master
suite and VIP double in the starboard hull, a guest twin and guest double in the port hull, with a bunk cabin for three forward.

All joinery is custom built and finished to McConaghy Boats uncompromising high quality standards and under the expert guidance of interior designers - m2 Atelier. The modern interior is constructed using a mix of hand-painted surfaces, lightweight timber laminates and soft fabric liners.
