Overview


"Chinese Whisper", ex-Jethou needs no introduction.
This Green Marine build is a standout IRC/ORC performer that can rival the very best out there on the grand prix circuits.
An extensive optimization in 2012 led by none other than Brad Butterworth, has further pushed the boat down the right track and given a windward/leeward race track, shes bloody hard to beat!

Mods under current ownership have really proved the boat as an offshore performer as well and a great option for ROLEX and RORC races through 2019.

Build


GENERAL BUILD SPECIFICATION:

Construction Method: CNC female moulds built for the hull and deck.
Pre-preg carbon composite, structural linear foam core from keel to bow in slamming areas with Nomex core to non-slamming hull areas, cockpit, deck.
Hi-density foam core to fittings & high load areas.
CNC milled single piece keel fin.
CNC milled lead bulb

YACHT HISTORY
The yacht was commissioned by Sir Peter Ogden in 2008 with no budget constraints.
Sir Peter selected the best - Judel Vrolijk to design and Green Marine to build.
Launched in May 2009 she sailed 2009-2011 in the original 60-foot configuration.

In 2011 Brad Butterworth was employed as Sir Peter's sailing manager. Brad felt that the boat could be further optimized, so Judel Vrolijk was commissioned to do a study.

Judel-Vrolijk came up with a "turbo" design package in mid-2011 with the following:
Add a 600mm stern scoop.
Fit a 50mm deeper keel.
Replace bowsprit with one 600mm longer.
Replace mast with one 1400mm taller.

The stern and bowsprit work was undertaken by Green Marine over European winter 2011-12. The new fin and mast were fitted March 2012.
The yacht raced European seasons 2012 and 2013 with many victories.

In July 2013 Sir Peter purchased the Maxi-72 "Stig" and so stored this yacht inside a shed for 2 year until purchased in 2015 by the current owner.

In 2016 the stern scoop was closed in to create 2 life-raft wells with a carbon/nomex panel designed by Judel Vrolijk and manufactured at Composite Innovations in Nowra, AUS.
Structural extras have been added to the boat to make CAT 0 compliant, including water tight bulkhead doors fore and aft.

In the 2018 season the boat was modified/optimised for 2-handed sailing, in preparation for the Melbourne-Osaka race.
Major work included;
-New furling upwind and downwind sail inventory.
-Protective hood/cabin added on deck.
-Optimized autopilot system.
-New non-skid white painted decks.
-New H5000 electronics.
-Powered winch system.

The build quality on "Chinese Whisper" really is a step ahead of her rivals, with a lot of the boat being a 'clear-coat' finish, showing that the workman ship from the Green Marine team is absolutely WORLD CLASS.
